New Delhi:

Election strategist Prashant Kishor reportedly reached out to Rahul Gandhi to work on the Congress party’s campaign in the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections later this year, according to two sources in Congress, a dramatic turnaround of events after both sides fell out after several rounds last year. of discussions.

The outreach comes months after negotiations between Congress leadership and Mr Kishor broke down over a wider role for the strategist in the party’s incentive in September last year. Congress then joined a former associate of Mr Kishor to handle his election campaigns while Mr Kishor became a key figure for Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.

However, it is said that Mr Kishor’s latest proposal is a one-off offer to work only on the Gujarat election, with “no conditions”, sources told techlives.

Congress should still appeal to Mr Kishor’s proposal, which was also raised during a meeting held by Rahul Gandhi with Gujarat congress leaders on Tuesday.

Some leaders of the Gujarat Congress are apparently eager to take on Kishor, with the last saying at Rahul Gandhi.

People close to Mr Kishor denied the story.

There was a material possibility that Mr. Kishor was due to join the congress last year, but the partnership expired due to “multiple reasons”, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of the congress told techlives earlier this year.

Prashant Kishor held several rounds of talks with all three Gandhis last year – Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi – and images of the strategist heading to Rahul Gandhi’s house sparked wild speculation. It is said that his entry into Congress was anything but done.

Reports of a collapse in negotiations came along with a series of sharp attacks by Prashant Kishor, who publicly said it was not the “divine right of any individual” to lead Congress, “especially when the more than 90 percent of the elections in the last 10 years. “

Mr Kishor has made it clear that he believes Congress does have a role to play in the opposition ahead of the 2024 national election, but not under the current leadership.
