The internet woke up earlier this month with a heartbreaking image of a pet dog tied to a fire hydrant. The fur ball was tied to a Wisconsin fire hydrant along with a backpack full of his belongings and a note from his former owner. The image that started doing the rounds on social media was later shared by the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) on Facebook along with a note on May 5th. In it, the shelter said the owner’s note made it clear that they loved their pet very much and were struggling to care for it due to serious health issues, which forced them to leave her. Well, the good news is that the dog, Baby Girl, has found a new family in less than two weeks.
A page called “We Rate Dogs” shared an update on the poodle on Instagram on Monday: “This is Baby Girl. She was tied to a fire hydrant next to a backpack full of her favorite stuff. I understand if this photo makes you angry, but I strongly encourage you to read what the Wisconsin Humane Society wrote after they found her.Baby Girl’s previous caretaker did the best they could under extremely difficult circumstances. We often have dogs in need, and unless we are explicitly about negligence, please assume that everyone involved is doing their best. ”
To break the good news, the post added: “We are delighted to say that Baby Girl was adopted last Thursday. We join the wonderful people at Wisconsin Humane Society and wish her all the best, and her former caretaker peace with this decision. “
According to People, Baby Girl was discovered by animal lovers on the corner of East Walnut Street and South Clay Street in Green Bay. Shortly after the discovery, the beautiful poodle was transported to WHS ‘Green Bay campus. Here she received proper veterinary care. Baby Girl was also made to go through the shelter’s “obligatory stray hold” before getting ready for adoption.
Once the image of the dog went viral, WHS said in a Facebook post: “As her story gets local and further attention, we wanted to take a moment to address Baby Girl’s previous owner directly:
First, we’re so sorry you had to say goodbye to your best friend. It’s clear how much you loved her and we can see you did your best while struggling with your own medical complications and life challenges. We see your love in the bag that you have carefully packed with all her favorite things. ”
The shelter concluded the statement by saying, “We wish you all the best and hope that when you see this, you can rest a little easier knowing that your baby daughter has a bright future ahead of her.”

After finding a new home for Baby Girl, the shelter also contacted the dog’s previous owner who, they said, “expressed her gratitude and happiness knowing that Baby Girl would find her next loving home.”
