Cyclist dies when electric pole hits him in Kerala

Kerala: The pylon rider sustained minor injuries, police said. (Representative)

a 20-year-old man was killed and another injured when a concrete electric pole fell on the bicycle in which the two were riding in Beypore near Kerala’s Kozhikode on Thursday.

The pilot, who sustained minor injuries, was admitted to a nearby hospital, police said.

Local residents later blocked the road, claiming that the accident occurred due to the negligence of a part of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).

However, a local CSE official dismissed the charge, saying a contractor entrusted with the removal of the dismantled posts had done so without taking any precautions.

“The pole broke and fell on the bike while it was being removed,” the official said.

The contractor was not available for comment.
