Google Updates Search Criteria to Provide Useful Product Reviews

Google has been working for some time to improve the product reviews that appear in Search. Now it releases an update with improved criteria to ensure that product reviews are useful to the users. The results on Google Search are now set to prioritize reviews from users who have purchased the product. In-depth reviews with unique information and comparison with other products will also be prioritized by Google. These changes are currently implemented only on the English version of the website.

Via its official blog, Google announced the March 23 update. The updated criteria are designed to “help ensure that reviews come from people who demonstrate expert knowledge and first-hand research on products.” Now the product reviews that contain in-depth details about the pros or cons of the item will be prioritized.

The new criteria will give preference to reviews with details about the product’s features and differences from previous versions. They should mention unique information that the manufacturer may not have provided originally. Reviews with information on its merits over comparable products or the differences between similar items will be preferred over others.

Furthermore, if all the information comes from reviewers who have used the product and can describe how the product is physically, then that review will be displayed in Search.

As mentioned earlier, this update is currently only available to English users. Google plans to extend these updates to more languages in the near future.

Google seems to be improving its search experience overall. The US tech giant recently introduced a ‘Wipe last 15 min’ option to its Android application. This feature gives Android users the ability to easily delete the last 15 minutes of their search history.
