The government procured 161.95 lakh metric tons (LMT) of wheat during the Rabi marketing season 2022-23 through May 1, according to data provided by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh were the states from which the maximum procurement of wheat was done.
More than 14.70 lakh farmers benefited from the procurement process, the ministry said, with the minimum support price (MSP) value of Rs 32,633.71 crore.
At the same time, the government also acquired rice worth 760 LMT until 1 May during the Kharif marketing season.
The ministry’s statement said that about 110 lakh farmers benefited from the acquisition of paddy with an MSP value of Rs 1,49,144 crore.
Maximum paddy acquisition has been made from states like Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Odisha among others.
