The Indian Premier League is the biggest T20 competition in the world and stars from all over the world are eagerly waiting to play their trade in the competition. However, if we look at the international calendar, some players decided to miss this year’s competition, while some were unlucky not to be selected at the mega auction. Despite two new teams entering the fray this year, there are some high-profile names who will miss the competition, which starts on March 26th.
Here are top five players who will miss IPL 2022:
1. Suresh Raina
The Indian left-handed batsman, also known as ‘MR.IPL’, set his base price as Rs 2 crore but he did not sell at the auction and consequently the batsman would miss the competition this year. Since the start of the tournament, Raina has appeared in all seasons except the 2020 edition, and he gained a huge fan base while playing for Chennai Super Kings and was popularly called “Chinna Thala”. Raina is the fourth highest scorer in the history of the IPL and the competition will truly miss him.
The English versatile player decided to withdraw from this year’s competition as he wanted to work with Joe Root to reform the English Test squad after the Ashes debacle. Stokes was one of the most popular properties when it comes to the IPL, but the versatile player decided to give the competition a miss to look out for in international cricket.
The English pacemaker was snatched up by the Mumbai Indians in the mega auction, but he would be available to play from next season. Archer is recovering from an elbow injury, so fans will have to wait another year to see the English pacemaker bowl in tandem with Jasprit Bumrah. Archer is known for making the opposition roar quickly, and as a result, the competition will miss an unusual bowler.
4. Mitchell Starc
Like many other seasons, Starc has chosen to sit out this year’s IPL as well. Earlier this year, Starc made fans curious when he revealed that he would be open to signing up for the IPL auction, but eventually decided to miss it to spend time with his family after spending some time on the road was. Known for his deadly yorkers, the Australian fast has missed many seasons of the IPL and it’s time for him to return to competition.
5. Eoin Morgan
The English World Cup winner led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the final last season, but Morgan found no contractors at the mega auction this year. He would therefore miss the competition. In the 2021 edition, Morgan might have taken his franchise to the finals, but he managed to score just 133 runs and this form might have cost him. Too late Morgan was also unable to score for England and he missed some T20Is against the West Indies due to injury.
The IPL 2022 will kick off on March 26 with the Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders battling each other in the first game of the tournament. The opening will be contested at Wankhede Stadium.
