Noida:

A 30-year-old man was reportedly killed after being injured in a fight during a party at a restaurant in a mall over bill payment, police officials said on Tuesday.

The restaurant bar was sealed and 16 of its employees detained in the aftermath of the incident that took place Monday night, officials said.

The deceased was identified according to police as Brijesh Rai, who hails from Chhapra in Bihar and worked for a private firm in Noida.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Ranvijay Singh said the incident took place at the Lost Lemons restaurant in the Gardens Galleria shopping center below the Sector 39 police station boundaries. “He went to the restaurant bar with his colleagues for a party. Around 11pm, an argument broke out between these people and the bar staff over the payment of a bill,” Mr Singh said.

“The argument quickly escalated into a fight in which Brajesh sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died,” the police official said.

Sixteen bar employees were detained and after watching the circuit television footage, eight people were identified, he said.

“The restaurant bar has been sealed to prevent tampering with evidence. The CCTV footage is being thoroughly analyzed and further steps will be taken accordingly,” he said.

Mr Rai is survived by his wife Pooja and two children aged five and three.

Meanwhile, a representative of the restaurant bar dubbed the episode an “extremely unfortunate incident” and claimed that those involved in the fight were not their employees.

“The incident took place outside the club and involved few unknown perpetrators who were not part of the club’s security, as the club does not employ any bouncers at all,” the bar official said.

“As a club owner we work fully with the police and have already provided the DVR, CCTV footage and the club is sealed,” the official added.
