Former US President Donald Trump posted a short message on Truth Social for the first time since Thursday, launching the application he launched two months ago, saying, “I AM BACK!”
Trump broke his silence when Elon Musk signed a $ 44 billion (about Rs. 3,37,244 crore) deal to buy Twitter, which Trump banned permanently last year, citing a risk of further violence following the siege of January 6, 2021 by a pro-Trump crowd in the US capital.
Republicans have welcomed Musk’s buyout of the social media platform in the hope that the Tesla CEO, who has promised to slow down content moderation practices to restore free speech, will invite Trump back to the site.
Since the deal was announced this week, Trump has said he will not return to Twitter.
In Thursday’s message, which is called a “truth” on the application, Trump wrote: “I AM BACK! #COVFEFE”, referring to a typo on a Twitter message he sent while President, who complained about the press and is widely believed.
Trump’s silence on its own application since the launch of Truth Social on Apple’s application store on February 21 has raised questions about its long-term viability.
Prior to its launch, his son Donald Trump jr. a screenshot tweeted of his father’s Truth Social account with one “truth” he posted on February 14, verified at @reaDonaldTrump’s account, with the message: “Get ready! Your favorite president will see you soon!”
Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), Truth Social’s parent company, plans to go public through a merger with blank check firm Digital World Acquisition, whose shares rose 7.7 percent ahead of the market on Friday.
The deal is being investigated by the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission and is likely months away from being finalized.
