Watch: Bhangra, Dhol beat India’s Welcome Team in tour match against Leicestershire | Cricket News

The Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma is engaged in serious business in England as they embark on a campaign to win the Test series against England. The visitors lead 2-1 in the series that had to be stopped halfway last year due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the Indian camp. The rescheduled Test will be played from 1 July at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. Before the all-important test, the Indians started their tour on Thursday with a warm-up match against Leicestershire.

The start of the warm-up match was quite entertaining as Indian opening batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill entered the field to the beat of bhangra dance and dhol beats. Dancers dressed in traditional Punjabi attire could be seen dancing while the players made their way to the field. Some of the Indian players could not hide their smiles about the situation.

Look: a little Bhangra to start the day for Indians!

The Indians bat first against Leicestershire in the four-day warm-up match. The warm-up match will be an opportunity for the Men in Blue to acclimatize themselves to the new state.

Indian star players Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna have been added to the rival Leicestershire County Cricket Club (LCCC) squad. They will play under county captain Sam Evans.

“Indian superstars Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna will all team up with the Leicestershire squad, led by opening batsman Sam Evans,” the English club said in a statement.

“LCCC, BCCI and the ECB have all agreed to allow the four players from the visiting camp to be part of the Running Foxes team, thus allowing all members of the travel company to take part in the competition ( subject to fitness).

“The match will be played with 13 players per team to provide further flexibility and help manage bowling load.”
