Zomato Delivery Exec among 3 dead after horrific motorcycle accident in Delhi

Seven people were in the car at the time of the accident

New Delhi:

A Zomato delivery partner and two teenagers died after a motorcycle and a car crashed last night in Northeast Delhi’s Shakarpur area.

According to police, the young women and five others of their family were returning from Peeragarhi in western Delhi to their home in Karkardooma. While three people sat in front, four were behind.

As the car was driving through Laxmi Nagar, the Zomato delivery partner got on the bike in the road and the car’s driver lost control when he tried to steer away, it is understood.

Those trapped in the overturned car were pulled out and rushed to a hospital where Jyoti (17) and Bharti (19) were pronounced dead. Two others sustained minor injuries.

Footage of the spot shows the mutilated frames of the hatchback and the two-wheeler.

Police said the Zomato delivery partner has yet to be identified. According to local residents, the man was seriously injured after the accident and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Hospital authorities, they said, told them no bed was available and while trying to arrange a bed, the delivery partner died.

Police have filed a case and further investigation continues.

The crash comes a month after Zomato introduced a 10-minute food delivery feature, raising concerns about hurried delivery and safety of delivery partners.

To allay fears, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal then said that the 10-minute delivery function would only be available at specific locations and that delivery managers would be unaware of the promised delivery time.

He claimed that this service would be just as safe for the delivery partners as the 30-minute delivery feature.
